Shoemaker's Daughter Ed Reavy
I learn't this tune by air from a cd call Pride of erin under 18's All-Ireland Champions. The tune is the first track on the cd and it's
called the Reel na Glaise Selection. The guy who plays it is Marcus Moloney and he play banjo. He plays that tune with a capo on the second fret. Excellent banjo player and he was under 18 at the time. I've got on or two lesson off him in the past
and think he is one to watch out for. The oranamation on the tune suits banjo and it's play more or less the same as the cd. It's the first tune I've by ear and I'm quiet please. Any comments on it please let me know.
Thank's Paul-K

It's played quite often in my neck of the woods, and it rocks, I love it.

Coincidence
On the way back from the Willie Clancy week, I was in Ennis on the Saturday night, before catching a flight from Shannon the next morning. I went along to "Cruises" bar, which had a session with 4 resident musicians, including a banjo-player. After a bit, I was cajoled to join in, and when the introductions were made, the banjo-player's name was Marcus. Now I bought that tape you mentioned a few years back, and putting 2 & 2 together, said "Would your surname be Moloney ?". He thought I must be psychic! Marcus is as good a banjo-player as I've ever come across - right up there with O'Connor, Egan, Scahill or Griffin.

Marcus Moloney
Marcus has a sound of his own on the banjo. Nobody I've heard sound like him.

Composer
It's an Ed Reavy tune.

I know this with the second part somewhat different - no rolls on the Fnat there.

Not good transcription butg lovely Reavy tune
I've never seen or heard the tune played this way. Much closer I think is the version found here: http://trillian.mit.edu/~jc/cgi/abc/tuneget?F=GIF&U=/~jc/music/abc/by/EdReavy/Reavycom.abc&X=37&T=SHOEMAKERSDAUGHTER.
At least that's the way it's played in sessions around north Clare -- Ennistymon, Doolin, Kilfenora. And it's closer to Reavy's own version.
The Fn is often played F#, making it much more flute-friendly.
