I learned this from Enda O Cathain (Kildare) who got it from a tape recording of an old fiddler, Frank Collins. Collins was an Englishman who played music with Irish fiddle players in the Goulburn district (NSW, Australia), in the 1920s, I think. The tape is in the National Library of Australia.

There is a tune in O'Niell's called Higgins which is a blend of this and the standard Harvest Home. This version has an older feel to it. It is certainly a very enjoyable tune to play. Take it at an easy pace.

"Higgin's Hornpipe" ~ Me thinks he doth protest too much?

Submitted on January 27th 2004 by gian marco.

Yes, yes, I know, caught out. I was distracted. Actually, among the many distractions was me sneezing up a storm and spraying the monitor while playing Gian's odd notation of "Higgin's", which I'm still messing with. I also had chores to do ~ WORKING ON MY THESIS!!! Heh, heh, heh...

So, is your head itchy or have you just grown used to the stuff living under your hat?
