(Would be surprised if it's got anything to do with Durham, UK...)

So would I have been. I looked it up on the Fiddler's Companion and got this: "Composed by Seattle fiddler Armin Barnet and David Molk on the way to the Irish Arts Week in Durham, New York, the original title being “The Ride to Durham.”

Question about the tune history
This sounds like a great story. But, I think the Arts Week started in 1995, and Horse with a Heart was released in 1989. No doubt that Armin Barnet and David Molk are credited with the composition, but I don't know know how they could be heading to the Irish Arts Week years before it started.

About the tune history
Several events are held up at the Michael J Quill in East Durham NY - I know of 3 -
There's an "Annual East Durham Irish Festival" since 1977 according to their website. This is a series of concerts by various bands, in the spring.
The East Durham feis has been running in the summer for 20 years which puts its start in about 1989.
Irish Arts week itself (the week long summer camp) is 15 yrs. now.
The titles are confusing - "East Durham Irish Arts Week" is also called "Catskills Irish Arts Week" and is in July. The final Saturday of the arts week is the "Traditional Music Festival" (now named after Andy McGann) which is not the same as the "East Durham Irish Festival".
btw, East Durham, NY is a hamlet near, if not part of, Durham, NY. Also called the "Irish Catskills" - the Catskill mountains have been famed as a resort for many many years. (see the film Dirty Dancing for an idea of it.)
Thats all I have found on this myself. So, it is possible that Barnett and Molk could have been headed for the concerts or the feis back then, just not to the summer camp. - Lesl
