Harder than heck

This tune is tough, I've seen it transposed in all different settings, keys etc. but this is the setting I was taught. In internet land it also seems to be the rarest - good going AC!! crackin' tune

The B-Parts a little different from what I play, I play it as follows:

abga fece|fbba geea|gebe c'ebe|ac'ea c'ae'c'|
abga fece|dcBc defg|(3aba gb afec|1 dcBe cAAg:|2 dcBe cAA2||

You need to go into the 2nd position for this one, this was my 2nd position lesson.

The Dawn - De Dannan version

I lost the album that had "The Dawn" on it by De Dannan. Does anyone have that?? If so please transcribe it for me if you can. Thanks

The Dawn/The Miller's Reel

The Dawn appears to be an Irish interpretation of an American tune called the Miller's Reel, in Cole's with the name of the composer (which I forget at the moment). The setting in Cole's is played at least by Scottish fiddle player Karen Steven and to my ear is much finer musically than any of the various Irish settings of the the Dawn, which mostly differ slightly in the second part and are close to identical to the Miller's Reel in the first.

Brad, De Danann's Dawn Reel is actually Sean Ryan's "Twilight In Portroe" - see http://www.thesession.org/tunes/display.php/4091.

The dawn

I have this in a different setting - its a great reel but very hard to play!! You need 5th and 3rd positions I think on the fiddle as it ranges from bottom G to top G!!!
I could scan the music and email to anyone who wants to have a go

Dawn / Twilight

I think the version played in Across the Pond is more like Twilight in Portroe.

Does anyone know how Matt Molloy plays this on "Contentment is Wealth" with Sean Keane? It's a lovely reel that generally goes below the range of the pipes, whistle, and flute. But Matt has apparently worked out how to fake it. I can't hear him well enough over the fiddle on the recording to figure out what he's doing.

Any thoughts?

I just had a listen...I think he rolls on G for the G, and A, initially in the first part and then kicks in when the tune is in range. As you say, it's a bit hard to hear him through the fiddle.
