In and Out the Harbor

This transcription is proof that The Session site is as alive and functional (perhaps more so) as any real circle of musicians sitting in their favorite pub. A week or so ago, Tiber wrote asking if anyone could provide the notes for the Battlefield Band's version of this tune. From my pc in Montana, USA, I offered "Upstairs in a Tent," which also goes by the title In and Out the Harbor. Then Lauren MacColl of Scotland said she had the sheet music, learnt directly from the Battlefield Band's fiddler. She mailed the carefully transcribed tune to me and I've posted the abcs here. It's clearly related to Upstairs in a Tent, yet different, and well worth adding to the store of tunes on Jeremy's site.

In and Out the Harbor

I saw the other tune a while ago and realized that I knew a very different tune. Went to check it with my teacher to make sure I wasn't misremembering title rather than tune; I was right.

Neat to find that when I returned to say that the version I know doesn't sound much like the other but is most definitely called 'In and Out the Harbor', someone else had beaten me to it. However, I'll lend some further credence to the statement. This version works very nicely indeed on highland pipes. Make sure to practice your machine-gun birls for the low A's.

I am not sure but I think the tune may have been written by Alan McDonald, the piper from Glen Uig in Scotland
