The Star And The Green Stone

A nice jig by thesession.org member Jörg Fröse, who says: "Composed in December 2002, and dedicated to Zina Lee, Denver, Colorado, and Tony O Connell, Chicago, Illinois. They know why...".

No mystery -- I sent Jörg a Christmas card, which had Tony's tune "Christmas in Kinsale" printed on it. Along with the card was my Christmas present this year for my friends -- a lace snowflake of gold thread with a green crystal in the middle. Jörg, bless his heart, found it in him to be inspired and this was our Christmas present in return. :) So I suppose now we have another Christmas tune to play. Thanks, Jörg -- and thanks for posting it, Glauber.

Hmm, looks like Jeremy changed the sheet music software or settings, it looks like it's handwritten now. Very pretty.

Well, Zina, that's the official story, at least. :-)

This is a pretty lively jig, by the way.

Posted with permission from the composer, of course.

That's the only official story I'm letting out, Glauber. :)

This sounds like a Northumbrian Pipes tune, especially with those chromatic bits. It reminds me a bit of a tune called "Joan's Jig", but only a bit...

Interesting. Jörg plays mostly fiddle, mandolin, banjo, concertina, and some other odd instruments; he hails from East Frisia, which is part of Germany.

Where is he?

Is Jörg around to comment on this? I'd be quite interested to know what his influences were. I've heard him talk about Kathryn Tickell, Alistair Anderson etc before, and on one thread he mentioned three-twos. *Surely* this is a Northumbrian pipes tune...
