Sweeney's Dream

I thought this is a classic reel considering Chieftains recorded it, but I've never heard it played in the real sessions. Are this kind of simple tunes old-fashioned now?

Similar tune

This has a similar feel to Scotch Mary;

It's that opening phrase, I guess.

Maybe playing this after Scotch Mary would sound more like a key change than an actual change of tunes.

On the contrary - I think that similar opening phrase could be a nice thematic link. I'll try them together when I get home. off the top of my head, I'm inclined to think that playing Scotch mary *after* Sweeney's dream would make a nice set.

Thanks, Jeremy. I'll add Scotch Mary to my poor repertoire. Good to know a new tune in a lovely set.

Played in sessions

At least by myself--:-) You'll hear it once in a while, not often. Obviously depends on what kind of sessions you go to.

Isn't this played on a Bothy Band album somewhere? Either that or on one of Kevin Burke's...Anyway, glad to have a name for it!

Sweeney's Dream

Listen to Patsy Hanley play this tune: http://www.lafferty.ca/music/irish/flute-geezers/patsyh4.mp3 The second tune is the Master's Return, I believe.

Sweeney's Dream

I occasionally hear this played at my session, and it would be nice to hear it more often. Just be careful not to go into the Belles Of Tipperary when you start that B-part!

Shaskeen recorded the tune as Killoran's on the Mouse Behind the Dresser album.
