Sheehan's Reel
Great reel - has a similar start though to "the Peeler's Jacket", "the Traveller", "Duke of Leinster" - there may even be others. It pays to sit out the first couple of bars of these tunes at a session unless the musician announces his intentions before starting to play!!

Hmmm...I've never heard the setting with the fnats in the B part. Common at sessions elsewhere?
I happen to like this tune played as a slow reel, even with fewer eighth notes, just strolling through the bare bones of the thing. Fiddler Laura Risk does this to great effect on her Greenfire cd.

Sheehan's Reel
Will, I forgot to mention this - I've never come across it played with F naturals in the "B" part either.

"This is just a version of Sheehan's. But it is a nice version."

So now I know it's name!
This is a tune that seems to be for ever irritatingly etched in my brain. I never learnt it, never liked it, and it keeps popping up when I'm looking for something else/different to play...
A common weed of sessions...
irradicate!
