This is a tune I've known for a long time, having picked up a version from the CD, The Poet & The Piper, played by Liam O'Flynn. Poems by Seamus Heaney and much played a few years ago by Ciaran MacMathuna on the radio, Mo Cheoil Thu.
I was trying to remember how it started there the other night and looking here for a few notes, was surprised to see it's not listed.
There's also a version credited to O'Neill's on the web as follows:
D|G2(cB)G(B A)FA|G2(c B)GB c2d|ege dc(B A)FD|E2c- ccA G2D|G2(c B)G(B A)FA|G2(c B)GB c2d|ege dc(B A)FD|E2(c B)cA G2||

Might try restructuring the ABC's- the tune repeats with two different endings:
|: D |\
G2c BGB AFA | G2c BGB c2d | ege dcB AFD |1 E2c c2A G2 :|2 E2c BcA G2 ||
And writing out the turn because of the variance in the second and fourth measures:
| d |\
gdB gdB AFD | ~g3 def g2d | ege dcB AFD | E2c c2A G2d |
gdB gdB AFD | g2g def g2d | ege dcB AFD | E2c BcA G2 ||
The sheet music should look a lot better this way.

Well, I don't particularly care as to how elegant the sheet music looks
I'm simply writing out the tune, simple as it is, showing a few of the variations that can be woven in. If I wanted to be elegant, I could do this and let people figure the lead in notes and variations themselves..

Echos of when I first submitted to the site and what I was shown by the longer members - I meant no offence.
Probably a joke or two about Irish music being elegant.
I'm pretty sure simplified or written with variations is a matter of preference.
I see you've plenty submittals - what are the odds you're baiting me?

You might not care how your sheetmusic looks but I want mine looking nice! It's a matter of personal pride, like getting rid of nasal hair.

This tune has long been one of those fairly common tunes that has remained weirdly absences from the custard pages for over a decade.
Good to see it up finally. I hope the sheet music is pretty...
