Found this in an old collection of New England fiddle music. The frequent octave leaps are a feature.

This tune is also found in O'Neill 1850 as #902, where it is alos known as Boys of the Lough (jig). The O'Neill version doesn't have the numerous octave leaps.

John Williams's setting, partially, more or less:

It's treacherously close, but I think we're probably going to play it with The White Petticoat following.

Rakes of Clonmel - Canny setting

Here is Paddy Canny's setting of the tune. I got this from the Patrick Ourceau workshop at the EC Tionol. Patrick said that Paddy likes to play this with his Gdor setting of The Cliffs of Moher although, on his Traditional Music From The Legendary East Clare Fiddler recording, he plays it after The Gallowglass.

Rakes of Clonmel

I like the interpretation of Plumley and Herr in http://www.thesession.org/recordings/display/2749. The tune really has a "haunting quality", as they write, and begs to be played in an unhurried fashion.

Altan's track "Australian Waters" on the "Runaway Sunday" album

A quick thankyou to "Lazyhound" and "FiddleMeThis"! I've spent most of this afternoon hunting for the title to the third tune in the above-named set. It certainly seems to be an arr't of this tune; though playing only parts A and B. Oddly enough as I listened to it more closely I also thought it'd sound well after the Gallowglass.
