"From the manuscript of Cumbrian musician Henry Stables, although it was composed by his teacher, fiddler William Irwin of Langdale, Cumbria. Most of the tune simply outlines triads and inversions of a chord progression, however, despite the fact that some disdain this kind of composition (for just that reason), this tune seems quite lively. Irwin (1822-1889) worked all his life as a cooper for the Elterwater Gunpowder Company, but managed a steady rotation of local tavern gigs. He was a regular in his local church band as well. Callaghan (Hardcore English), 2007; pg. 17. Knowles (A Northern Lass), 1995; pg. 34."
