Miss Thornton's (highland)

Learnt off Harry Bradley's first recording. The sleeve notes don't provide much information on the tune, and I've never heard anyone else play it. It might be a different version of the same tune Gary Hastings plays in this clip from around 2:15 : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VB9BE3SzTEQ

Fermanagh Version

Gets played in Fermanagh as Jimmy Duffy's Highland. Here it is more or less as learned from Rev Gary Hastings way, w ay back in the early 80s, but in a considerably straightened out version.

Miss Ramsey's Highland

Thanks, Kenny. I wondered why this highland doen't have much in common with Miss Thornton's Reel. Harry simply got the name wrong!

Miss Ramsey's Highland

I don't know if it needs saying, but this is a version of a tune well known in Scotland as "Lady Mary Ramsay" (claimed separately by Niel Gow and James Porteous). Other names for it include "The Auld Toon o' Edinburgh". In Shetland and Ireland it became a reel ("Mary Ramsay's" and "The Queen's Shilling" respectively) and part of the Four Provinces dance set.
