Try again, please.....

There's hardly a bar in this transcription which doesn't have a mistake in it. The tune has 4 parts, not 2, which seems to be the case here. And it's "MacKenzie" in the photocopy I have of the tune, not "McKenzie" .
This should be deleted, and if you're going to post the tune on this website, you should make sure your transcription is accurate.

Its also a hornpipe by i believe J.A.Barrie and published in John MacFadyens BK2 and Ceol Na Fidhle.
Also recorded by The Battlefield Band and Tannahill Weavers.

John MacKenzie's Fancy

Yes, I agree with Kenny and Iain, this is way off. It's a GHB hornpipe but one of those that is closer to a reel than an Irish style hornpipe. Here it is as a reel, hopefully with the right notes. I don't have the Shooglenifty recording to hand at the moment :-)

John MacKenzie's Fancy

Oh well, another insult to the composer stuck up on the interweb.

# Posted on January 9th 2011 by bogman

Trying...

As to the spelling, I wrote it as it's written in the sleevenotes on the Shooglenifty album. I have now corrected this.

I rushed it a bit in assuming it had gone into another tune on the album where i can now see that i have missed two parts. I apologise for this.

Bogman, thanks for the transcription. In the interest of quality control would you like me to paste this in place of my effort?

Sorry for my nippy comment musicism. It's up to yourself on which abc's to have posted, unfortunately the sheet music can't change, which is something I'm sure we all wish we could do.

# Posted on January 10th 2011 by bogman

No problem, i can totally understand the responses and will try to make sure any future posts are checked properly against different recordings etc. I guess Spotify may come in handy for this.

Until now i naively assumed that if it sounded right on the ABC player and the key was correct etc then it would be welcomed and that different versions would then be posted in the comments section but i understand missing parts is fairly inexcusable.

Apologies people...

Good on yer musicisum !

This has long been one of my favourite Scottish tunes, and I myself learnt it as a 2-parter. Well done, mate, and as for the sarcasm and vitriol you have copped from others for daring to put up an inaccurate transcription - well, let's all hope we'll never be so petty and intolerant as them.

What's the old saying ? Nobody likes a smart****. Musical snobs are just as bad as any other sort.

I'm a musical snob, it seems....

If you learned it as a "2-parter", then you only learned half of it.
There was no sarcasm or vitriol displayed above, until you posted.
My first 3 statements are factual. Prove otherwise, or apologise.
I myself make no apology for being of the opinion that transcriptions on this website should be accurate. If that makes me "petty", "intolerant", "a smart****", and a"musical snob", then that's fine.

For the conveniance of flute players, and a different feel, here it is in E Mixolydian.
Note that there are three sharps on display but don't worry: the G# is never sounded as the tune is in the 3rd-less Hexatonic mode.
