"Turnpike Side"

While being reminded of "O'Carolan's Fancy", another tune I've added to the database I was also reminded of this one I used to play. Also, when I add a recording here I also, at least that's the hope and intention, try to make sure that I follow that with a transcription or more from that recording. That's two, and I'll try to chase up at least one other. But, I have promises to keep, and miles to go before I sleep...

"Turnpike Side" ~ single jig

According to his notes, Alistair Anderson got this one from the Cocks Museum in Newcastle...

This tune has also been mis-titled by some as "Turnpike Slide"...

Here's another basic take on the same tune giving a few other options ~

This jig may actually be found in the FARNE manuscript archive:

http://www.asaplive.com/archive/detail.asp?id=R1003301

This manuscript was compiled by John Bell in about 1812. Entitled 'Collection of local tunes as played in Northumberland' .

Although the manuscript has a note scribbled on it saying 'not Northumbrian'.
