This tune works nicely as a slow reel.

I've included triplets in the music above, something I hardly ever do. I find that this tune sounds very flat without them.

Personally, I like to play this tune quite slowly, but I've also heard it played fast. A compromise would be to play it like a hornpipe.

Oh, I mistakenly post the tune with the name "Colonel McBain" last night. Just in case, I searched for the tune with its fragment before posting it, but I didn't notice Jeremy post it already.

I totally agree with Jeremy about the speed. I like playing it after "Terry Teehan's."

My name is Sean Frank and I came across this by accident on the net. Very nice song.

Sean Frank's reel

I know quite a different tune by the same name: a D modal reel that is often played after Tuttle's (Casey's) reel. If anyone is interested I will send the sheet music as a Mozart or MS WORD file

Frankie Gavin's tune was different than this setting, which is out of the books, I think. I think Frankie was in D but tuned up a little. He paired it with the Bunch of Green Rushes, which is in D "Minajor" or whatever you want to call it. I prefer his setting, which was also played by Michael Coleman, in G...Mixolydian? B was both nat and flat. He called it Malloy's. John Doherty recorded a very similar reel, on Bundle and Go. Related to O'Dowd's and the Curragh Races.

I believe Mother's Delight is more similar to this reel.

... also known as 'Brian Boru', 'cos it is, in fact, a version of the same tune as is posted here as a march:
