Dermot Grogan's No. 2
I know of two Dermot Grogan tunes. The first one I learned from Larry Nugent and it is on his first CD. The second one is this one, which I got off of Catherine McEvoy's CD with Felix Dolan. There may be more Dermot Grogan tunes out there, i don't know. In any case, this one is a really nifty and somewhat unusual-sounding jig. The second part is particularly striking with the repeated 'ebb' and 'dfa' phrases. What really makes the tune, though, is changing up the phrasing in the second part. This is what Catherine McEvoy does and it sound great. In other words, take breaths (or pauses) in different places in the second part each time around.
Anybody know Dermot Grogan?

Dermot Grogan's No. 3
Well, just listened to tune attributed to Dermot Grogan on the first track Mícheál Ó Ralghallaigh CD, and--lo and behold--we have a third Dermot Grogan tune. According to the notes, Dermot Grogan is a "flute and box player from Mayo but living in New York at the moment."
