I learned this tune from a quicktime file... :-) It was a video clip of a "Mike McGoldrick+John McSherry" concert in Dublin. Found it on the "Downloads" section of Phil Hardy's site, kerrywhistle.com.
I liked the tune and soon found out that it appears on "At First Light", their album, and is called Jimmy Batty's. Could it be a hornpipe? the following tune in the set, "The Bloom of Youth", sounds like one, but I'm not sure about Jimmy Batty's though. hmmm.

I think this tune is exclusive to "The Session"! ;-) Couldn't find it anywhere else. It was pretty hard to learn it. The sound quality wasn't too good and the audience whistled/shouted during the difficult measures... :-)

Jimmy batty's

First heard this tune in 1994 at the Paddy O'Brien weekend in Nenagh, Co. Tipperary, so it's been around for a few years.
I think it was composed by fiddle/banjo player John Carty, and "Jimmy Batty" is a nickname for his young son.
Great reel. - and so is "The Bloom Of Youth".
