When is one person's way with a melody not just another take but a mangling? And in making such a judgement, which is the mangled and which the mangling? Based on what criteria?
Personally I enjoy JD's way with this, whatever its origins or relationships...

I dont see it as a mangling because there are different takes on Johnnie Cope... one of which I play without the third part... And JD's way with this melody is very cool indeed
