Siod Mar Chaidh An A Dholaidh

The setting is from Daimh on "The Pirates of Puirt." On her album "Mar A Tha Mo Chridhe," Julie Fowlis sings this puirt a beul which translates to "That's how the cabbage was ruined"

Another relative of the Haughs of Cromdale perhaps?

Perhaps

Some of the Em versions I've dug up of Haughs bear some resemblance. The Am versions are a little more vague and diverge in the B parts.

Many sets of words have been put to the unes in this family.
The Tannahill Weavers recorded one in English years ago...

I'd love to know what 'the cabbage' implies

Siud mar chaidh an càl a dholaidh
Laigh' a' mhìn air màs a' choire
Siud mar chaidh an càl a dholaidh
Air na bodaich Ghallda
X2

Siud mar chaidh an càl a dhìth
Seo mar chaidh an càl a dhìth
Siud mar chaidh an càl a dhìth
Air Impire na Frainge
X2

Arís

Translation:
That's how the cabbage was ruined
The flour lay at the bottom of the pot
That's how the cabbage was ruined
By the old Lowland men

That's how the cabbage was rendered useless
That's how the cabbage was rendered useless
That's how the cabbage was rendered useless
By the French Emperor
