Michael Rankin's

Great reel ,presumably by Michael Rankin. This is the version we play at our session which I'm pretty sure is very close to the original.

And here's a great version for pipes that I picked up of the Daimh album 'Crossing Point'.

Hmmm...

I believe that this tune was written by John Morris Rankin (of The Rankin Family fame) for Michael, whom I *think* is his son, but I very well could be wrong on that one.

Great tune, though! Thanks for posting :)

Thanks, you're absolutely right, just checked the Daimh sleeve notes.

Woohoo! Another awkward Scottish tune on uilleann pipes. We'll see how this goes. LOL.

Bogman, do you play the Daimh version at your sesh?

Michael Rankin's

No, at the moment we play the original Cape Breton version I posted here but I dare say we'll play the pipe version soon. I don't have a recording though, got this version from Farquhar.

I got the Daimh version, more or less, today. Not as hard as I thought. And good craic to play.

I'm not a good enough dot reader to pick up a tune straight from the sheet music so I'm going to have to let this lie until I can get a recording of it.

We'll play the Daimh version next time you visit then, I prefer the pipe version anyway.

The version played by the Rankin Family is in E minor. Anyone have the notes for that version?

Michael Rankin's

That's a different tune, not a version terryandbuffy. The final tune, in E major, is Malcolm Findlays, I don't know the first reel.
