Stansted Is A....

I really hope this gets deleted. I'm no prude but kids come on this site. Very, very poor.

Melodically, this tune doesn't seem too bad, but the second phrase doesn't seem all that great to me... And I agree, I really don't prefer the title.

# Posted on August 4th 2009 by JosephC

The first part sounds very similar to another tune - that I just can't place right now.

I reckon the person who submitted this lives near Great Dunmow as Stansted are planning a new runway which runs very close to that place and some residents aren't happy

Just my 2 cents

write and post a banal tune by all means, if you can do no better- but there is no excuse whatsover for the title, asterisk or not. Get it off the site. It's a disgrace and Choones needs a good kick up the a*se.

Like, ohmygod, totallylikeunbelievable. The name is a joke. If youd spent as many nights in Stansted airport as i have you might have to written such a tune. Its obvious some of you have difficulty playing it properly, like huskys, no comments there i see.

# Posted on August 6th 2009 by Choonz

Choonz, you are so very sad, ignorant, full of yourself and immature.

Stansted Is A....

Some jokes are quite inappropriate - as this one is, for the simple reason that a large number of people of all ages and backgrounds will find it offensive and therefore might not feel inclined to purchase the CD or to have it in their home, or to have it on display in a venue (gig, workshop) where youngsters and others would see it. An organiser of a gig or workshop might well have views on the matter.
I take the point about Stansted airport, and frequent travelers will feel the same about most airport terminals. Wouldn't this have been a good opportunity for the band to sit down and think of a witty and perhaps oblique comment about the airport as a tune title? This would have been far more effective, especially for potential trad sales. I presume this CD isn't intended for the punk rock or underground music markets.

mike the box - its hardly a banal tune. as for the pontificating about the language... i really couldn't care less.. 'shock' 'horror' it has a swearword in the title... most of the pleasure derived from giving it a title like that is in the over the top reaction from idiots like yourself. Get a life.

# Posted on August 6th 2009 by TheHappyCamper

and if you can't see the hypocrisy in using the word a*se after ours, in a rant about not influencing young people........... then you're either simple or a hypocrite.

# Posted on August 6th 2009 by TheHappyCamper

and again, i will feel free to post a 'banal' tune if i feel like it. yeah, i guess you're such a prolific tune writer and musical afficionado that i care about your opinion. i'm 'deeply hurt'.

# Posted on August 6th 2009 by TheHappyCamper

Cultivating outrage as a route to notoriety and hoped-for-celebrity has historically been the last weapon in the armoury of capitalism. Funny, or not really, that it's taken so long to reach trad music in this form - the epater les bourgeoisie thing ... it's very 1950s-70s in most other contexts.

The HappyCamper ought to be a very happy camper, but sadly upsetting the straight people just isn't as cool as it used to be. It's actually one of the most deeply commercial things you can do. It's totally embedded in consumer culture and that just isn't cool now is it?

As no one has mentioned it...

the offensive part of the use of the word in question (at least to me) is not that it's a "four-letter" word or something like that; it's that the derogatory use of a part of the female anatomy is deeply misogynistic.

A view of the comments thus far

I'm glad to see the majority of responses find the title offensive. I find it encouraging that individuals would like to preserve or improve standards on this site(and no doubt elsewhere).... It is easier to make up attention seeking titles than it is to nurture a conscience ... so my thanks to all who have complained. I, like them, would like to see it removed.

No doubt that sounds a bit negative Choonz so here's a more positive idea: Submit your tune with a better title. I for one would then go and listen to it. Instead of being put off by the title I could decide if the tune suits me which is what submitting tunes is for.

I'm a bit confused

Well, Choonz, after checking out the other names for An Phis Fluich on this site, I can see how confusion as to what is deemed as appropriate might arise. I would suggest naming any further iffy tunes in Gaelic; then all will probably be forgiven, lol.

Happy Camper- it was ironic, y' fool.........

# Posted on August 14th 2009 by mike the box

Why

choonz...its a nice little tune but surely you would have realised that the title is offensive to a lot of people. The swearing part doesnt bother me its the actual word in use. the fun of naming tunes is in the use of INNUENDO!!! not blatant foulmouthedness. Im sure judging by the standard of the tune you could have spent a little more time and found a suitably funny innuendo for the title.

# Posted on August 16th 2009 by Mrs.Lonal Dunny

The blatant use of the word is funny in itself.
