Lyndhurst

I got this tune from the Silly Wizard album 'Live Wizardry' , they play it after Scarce o' Tatties. It's a really great jig but I'm afraid I've got no idea as to it's origins.

Abc error, maybe?

Should not the first two notes of the third line be semiquavers, rather than quavers, Bogman?

That is: c/e/

as opposed to ce

Lyndhurst

Yep, well spotted Mix, thanks for that, I've sorted it just in time.

This reminds me a lot of a tune in "The Northern Fiddler" transcribed from the playing of Danny O'Donnell and simply entitled "Piping Jig." It's on p. 185 (of the edition I have). The versions are probably different enough, though, that they could be called different tunes.

Sleeve notes...

"Silly Wizard" don't credit any composer, but say that it was a march, which they played as a jig.

Yes, I first learnt it as a pipe march with the usual heavy dotted rhythm but I thought the jig version would be best for this site.

Lyndhurst

This tune is in Ceol na Fidhle book 3+4 and is credited to someone called Jack Smith.
It is played around here as a 6/8 march and the Gs are sharp.
