I do not know the source anymore, must be Britanny. We call it Pharao, because we played it after the song with this name.

F instead of F#
The F# doesn't sound right to me! I think it sounds better vwith the F natural.

A dorian or A minor?
Meri,
I think both versions make sense, but I personally prefer the F# (dorian) one. As I do not know any authentic version from Britanny I can not tell you which one is the more traditional one...

the contour of the first bar (whether in dorian or minor) is common to many French tunes and songs, such as in "Compagnons de la marjolaine" etc
