Nar Dagsmilda Kjem

I found this on a YouTube link from the comments accompanying the tune Norrgimma, which is already in the Tunes database.

I think it's a great tune. The above-mentioned source is Scandinavian and I'll presume the tune is unless anyone says otherwise, but it has (IMO) a very Scottish flavour and could readily pass for a composition of Phil Cunningham's.

I couldn't get at the YouTube link right now to check some of the dotted bits etc. of the tune - I got one of those annoying grey panels telling me I'd performed "an illegal operation", etc. But if I can, I may alter bits of the ABCs to bring my submission closer to the playing of the musician, which is very good.

Nar Dagsmilda Kjem - played on the following YouTube link:-

Here's the YouTube link (Norwegian, I think), featuring someone playing the tune very nicely on melodeon:

Couldn't agree more, nicholas. Lovely bit of playing. Nice basses.
Have you any idea what the title translates as?

I've tried to check it out on online dictionaries, but haven't got a firm or sensible result. Maybe someone from Scandinavia will be able to help us out!

"Have you any idea what the title translates as?"

Når dagsmilda kjem translates as "when the "dagsmilde" comes. "Dagsmilde" (lit. day's mild) refers to the mild days that appear in late winter - we have just experienced those days here in Aberdeenshire!

It is a waltz. A hambo is stressed like a mazurka - the first and third beats in the bar - this is a straight waltz beat.

The YouTube link appears to have changed its contents, and I don't think the clip of this tune is any longer available. A pity, if this is so.

I sent a youtube message to the one playing this tune the other day, and he's re-recorded it it seems... I think it's in a different key here, but played just as well and just as beautiful!

Here's the good link
