Huntsman's Chorus
A mention of the "Chorus Jig" in a recent discussion brought this tune to the forefront of my mind. (This one is nothing to do with that particular tune, of course).
The Huntsman's Chorus tune used to be very much a standard at English barn dances and English pub sessions. I haven't heard it played in a while, so I suspect that it's gone out of fashion in those circles.
In the past, a number of traditional tunes have been incorporated by composers into their compositions. With this tune, it's the other way around.
It came quite quickly into the tradition in the early 19th following the production of an opera (I believe that it was Van Webber's "Der Freishutz).
Within the tradition, this tune exists in many settings - the one that I've posted just happens to be the one that I'm familiar with.
In its "traditional" form, tune is also known as "Buttercups and Daises".
