Thadelo's #2

Especially for “bb”, who mentioned this recently. The Sliabh Luachra version of “Turkey In The Straw”, with impeccable credentials, played and recorded by “Any Old Time”, Johnny Leary, and also Jimmy Noonan and Chris McGrath from Chicago on that very fine recording “The Maple Leaf”, although they play it more like a reel, without the “bounce” of a barndance.
The original is here already, but I’d say this is sufficiently different to stand on it’s own, and given the status of the Irish musicians who have recorded it, maybe even has more right to be here than the "Turkey".
If it’s seen as a duplicate, so be it – I’ll post it as an alternative “abc” in the comments – up to you, Jeremy.

Let it stay

Reminds me of a version I play in A called Sugar in the Gourd. Which some say is a seperate tune. Id say seperate arrangement... but anyway it's fun in A .... and definitely has historically been played in the USA historically more than the generic version of "Turkey" thats everywhere now.

Thadelo...

Several recordings, especially those made by musicians from the “Sliabh Luachra” area, include slides, polkas, or barndances named “Thadelo’s”. eg – “Beginish”, “The Monks Of The Screw”.
Thadelo O’Sullivan came from Annaghbeg, Gneeveguilla, and was a great source of tunes for the late Johnny O’Leary. According to various sources on the internet, and mentions on recording sleeve-notes, he played accordion, melodeon, concertina, whistle and fife.

"Johnny O'Leary of Sliabh Luachra:

Dance Music from the Cork-Kerry Border"
edited by Terry Moylan
Lilliput Press, Dublin, 1994

Page 65, tune #112: "Thadelo's (1)"
~ filed under 'hornpipes' in the index...

Another transcription worth checking out, as well as turning your ears towards the music of Johnny O'Leary and Sliabh Luachra.

N: This tune and the next are two of the tunes associated with Thadelo Sullivan ~. Again, they fall within the fast end of the range of hornpipes. ~ Terry Moylan

Q: 1/4 = 113
