C: Jeremiah McLane, East Randolph, Vermont, U.S.A., 1990
The title concerns the hills that are a geographic feature of Sharon, Windsor County, Vermont in the Northwest U.S.A., states also known collectively as 'New England' and the seedbed of origins for many contra dances and contra tunes and influential musicians and callers...

"Hands 4 from the top" ~
I was a bit perplexed when I saw 'Nancy Martin' given credit for this one, as it just didn't seem familiar. But? The musicians that made up Jigsaw ~ Dan Compton, Clyde Curley, Geoge Penk & Heather Pinney have all played with Nancy & Bill Martin, and have played some of her music, so it would be strange for them to get this wrong, though not unbelievable. We all get confused at one time or another. As best I know, which is pretty good, I don't think dear Nancy ever made it to Sharon, Vermont, and I think the closest she would have gotten was New Jersey...

Page 246: Notes ~ Jeremiah McLane quoted: "'The Hills of Sharon' refers to the hills surrounding the town of Sharon, Vermont. It was written in 1990 and can be heard on my first solo recording, 'Jeremiah McLane', and on Gypsy Reel's 'Shake that Spirit Free'."

"The Portland Collection"
Susan Songer's notes are brilliant, and the two collections are recommended...though I have yet to acquire my own copy of volume 2...

Oops...
Indeed it was written by Jeremiah McLane.
Should remember to check my sources at least twice at the end of a long day,
I agree ceolachan. The portland collection is a fabulous resource. I totally forgot the tune was in there!
