"The Straw Rope"
From 'The Keegan Tunes, Vol. 2'-
This is the first of a two jig set, soon to be followed with a tune called 'Black Rosie'. In my mind these are almost as a fast waltz, with a very dignified character. With the first in D and the second changing keys to G, they make a very nice set.

This tune appears as a slide, under the title Port Mhicí Uí Mhurchú, as tune #54 in Brendan Breathnach's Ceol Rince na hÉireann, vol. 4 (An Gum, 1996). I'm afraid I don't know enough Irish to completely understand the accompanying note, but there is mention made of the similarity to the transcription of the similar tune Yellow John (Seán Buí) given in the book The Dance Music of Willie Clancy (Ossian, 1993). I'm not clear on at what point Josephine Keegan comes into the picture here.
