I musn't confuse you with too many choices, but it also bounces along just fine in A Major too, the key in which O'Neill gave it (to follow)... ;-)

Ed Cronin's Rambles

"& guess what, for some reason they have a different take on the B-part ~"

Hi ceolachan, Seeing as I'm studying Ed Cronin's Rambles at the moment, I looked this up and it appears what happened was that when Andy was transcribing from 1001, his glance must have shifted up to the top of the page.

In 1001 p.148 the top of the page is Coming From the Wedding. This alternate 2nd part e2 ce Aece ... listed on the FC is the 2nd part of Coming From the Wedding, which is #854 in 1001 - first tune of page 148.

The tune directly below that on p.148 is Cronin's Rambles, #855. A small price to pay for the gem of the Fiddler's Companion I'd say.

I also looked up Ed Cronin (because our neighbour's name is also Ed Cronin!) and found that Capt. O'Neill did a biographical sketch on him - and that fiddler Ed Cronin gave Capt. O'Neill a lot of tunes as well as helped with the field work for the tune books, transcribing from the players in Chicago.

Am heading over to Slainte's thread link now to see what's up with the "Weird One" hornpipe ;) lol. - Lesl
