"Tom Mhic's No. 1" ~ Begley's name for it
Well, a duplication for sure. I'll have to let Jeremy know and mover this over to your comments... I looked for it in other keys but may have forgotten to check A... While there's no problem with playing it in A, but a considerable number of the old recordings, including by Begley, are a full step out, so tunes in G sound in A and tunes in D sound in E, etc... Was this some idiotic way to fit them on to 60 minute tapes? Maybe, but the same is true of the CD this tune can be found on...

It's not uncommon though to switch parts out of sheer devilment!

The usual order of a dance tune is with it ending on a high, the A-part generally building up to a rise in the B-part, the first half starting lower than the second, with both parts being valued, that change back and forth being part of the excitement, one overdone at times in using key change. It's all part of communicating energy, drive, lift, dance - moving forward. That's with regards to the phrases and sentences making up the more common two-part dance melody, or any tune, the multi-part tunes being paragraph in length, but working when they actually make sense and take you somewhere...
I was pretty sure this set of polkas had a much earlier presence here, but we have lost a few contributors in circumstances where everything they'd contributed went with them, and at least in one case I know it meant a substantial loss here in the tunes section...
