"Sleigh Ride" ~ for Bodhran Bliss, sleigh bells and coconuts in hand

This is a take on the Leroy Anderson number. I can't remember exactly what we did with this at Christmas time, but we'd arranged it and played it during Christmas ceilis and a few times had sleigh bells, or Morris bells jangling and a wood block going, and some of us gave a fair imitation of a horse's neigh. ( BB would probably want to say horse's arse 8-) )

So, something for the season. It is a kick to play and to dance to, and in no way is it meant to be taken too seriously. As I said, I haven't our old arrangement on hand to transcribe from, so this is trying to keep it in a reasonable range so most intruments can handle it, and who can't manage an F natural on winds? ~ or eventually, with a little practice... ;-)

I think we actually played it through at least one modulation. Here's another way with part of the A-part, bars 4 & 12, another options ~ | GA/B/ c/d/e/f/ | ~...

No, I couldn't get hold of Leroy Anderson to O.K. this, but let's hope there's no problem. The tune was composed in 1948 with words added by Mitchell Parish in 1950.

A glockenspiel would go nicely to, don't yuh think? If only bodhranistas could handle melody... 8-) (I was only joking, don't hit me, I'm wearing glasses!)

I don't know if I should moan at you about this or learn the tune for Thursday's session! Honestly!

I think I will do the latter :-D

# Posted on December 11th 2007 by No Cause For Alarm

I also do other things with those long notes, but more on that later...

# Posted on December 11th 2007 by ceolachan

A set

You could always go into Salmon Tails Up the Water after this.

# Posted on December 11th 2007 by No Cause For Alarm

:-D ~ I think we did...

# Posted on December 11th 2007 by ceolachan

We didn't start with "Sleigh Ride", maybe it was Salmon into Turkey? ;-)

On those long notes we'd sometimes shuffle them, as the above example shows, one option....

The shaky egg / percussion moment to follow! Maybe giving them a moment will free us up from such excess for the rest of the year? ~ maybe not... :-/

# Posted on December 15th 2007 by ceolachan

"Sleigh Ride" ~ the 'TRIO' ~ the shaky egg extravaganza

Here it is, delayed for reasons of sanity, the moment for shaky egg shufflin' percussion overkill ~ but ~ best done with 'subtlety' 8-)

Be glad it is not an Eastern European tune or someone would be calling for its deletion. As it is I can't think of a tune that would be more Irish!

;-)

# Posted on December 15th 2007 by No Cause For Alarm

I've no motivation to turn it out as 5/8 or any other fray on mixed meters... :-D

"Sleigh Ride" ~ Leroy Anderson

Here it is together, hopefully making sense, if you want to play both parts and join them up, maybe twice through the first, the dotted transcription, before the ending and adding the extra shaky egg moment ( NN N2 = the shaky egg shuffle) ~
