My all-time favorite jig. Goes absolutely perfectly on pennywhistle (higher keys only, I find...) and doesn't sound too great on a fiddle.... but be your own judge. Play it 3 times - slowly, faster, blazing fast. Great fun, gets people's feet a-stomping. good for sessions when there's too many bodhraniis...

I have this jig in my pennywhistle instruction book. It was one of the first tunes I learned to play on whistle.
I played this one for a friend once, and he danced. I told him that it's called "Fool's Jig" and he said, "Aw, I danced the jig, and I'm a fool!"

Yep... i learned it from Cathal McConnel's (I think that's his name...) "Irish Tinwhistle Tutor" and it stuck with me for 4 years... it was the third tune I learned.

This tune appears in O'Neills, written in 4/4, as a hornpipe (or reel, I forget), under the name of Roxburgh Castle. It is also popular in Northumberland and the Scottish borders, where the above title comes from.

"Roxburgh Castle" ~ Hornpipe

It makes a lot more sense to me this way...whatever key you like it in...

With that in mind ~ "Fool's / Roxburgh Castle Hornpipe"

This is a straight transfer from the notes given here, with very little change, I added the lead in of (3A,B,C ~
