Armstrong's Jig

Don't know much about this tune. I believe it was composed by JM Alexander.

A quick Google search turns up this hit on Nigel's site which lists a tune by that name on "The Eagle, The Mountain and the Red, Red Deer" by "On the Wagon". Nigel - any more info?

Armstrong's Jig

There is no information on the CD sleeve, apart from the composer, JM Alexander. On the Wagon are a band from my home town (Crieff), so next time I bump into any of them, I'll ask. When I imported the track into iTunes and got the track names, that tune came up as "The Strong Arm" for some reason. On the Cd they play it much slower than a jig, more like an air. It's not much different to your one. Where did you get the tune?

It came from a friend, Susan. She plays with a ceilidh band, Canned Haggis and when I was at one of the ceilidhs I asked her about some of the tunes she played. Next time we met she handed me the music for 2 of them - Armstrong's and The Lillias.

There was a great tune she played that is apparently her own but I can not remember how it went at all other than it was great!

If I remember right she played this tune at a fair pace, for dancing to.

This tune was written by James Alexander but the band On The Wagon slowed it down and said they wrote it.

Armstrong's Jig

hardtoexplain, I'm not sure why you are saying this. It's clearly credited to J M Alexander on the On the Wagon CD sleeve, and on their website: http://www.faheystuart.co.uk/otw/otw_discography.html

Armstrongs Jig

written by James Alexander. Tune was released on CD by On The Wagon who unfortunately initially listed it as trad. arr someone else. On realising the mistake the subsequent CD inlays were corrected.
Nice to see it included though!

James (composer of Armstrongs!)
