Mary of Graces/Lament-putting it all together

This is a lament, played very slow, rubato with a great deal of expression. The intent is to create a hauntingly simple tune.

I learned this from Brother Brendan (I am not Irish or a religious-he is both) in Chicago whose tenor version of this would make you cry. The lament, I am told, works on several levels. It was originally a religious song. But done as a lament (I am told by those more poetic) it is a statement about the emigration, people's fears embarking on the unkown under less than desirable circumstances, individuals faced with an impending battle, or asking protection from unknown dangers.

There are two major phrases. The Sessions ABC editor did not allow A: and B: designation. I tried to phrase it so the A and B is obvious. It is played ABAA and then whatever you want to do with it.

A is intended as an instrument solo. For those who use ABC
Q:48, should be very slow threes.

B is a single instrument (I use a high d whistle. wood flute is exceptional also.) obligato played over a beautiful female voice singing verse 1 unaccompanied.

A is repeated. Beautiful female voice sings vs 2 with one or 2 instruments in loose unison.

A is repeated instrumentally

The last bar is done with a very long slur into the note.

Words:
Verse 1

O_ Mary of_ Graces and Mother of God, May I
tread in the_ paths that the righteous have trod. And_
may-est thou save me from evils control; And
may-est thou_save me in body and soul.

Verse 2

And_ may-est thou save me by_ land and by sea, And_
may-est thou save me from tor-tures to be. May the
guard of the an-gels above me abide, May
God_ be before me and God at my side.

Sheet music corrections that need to be made.

I made several corrections to typos the ABC which have not been corrected yet.

in the 4th bar and in subsequent similar phrases, there is D to B to A phrase. The sheet music shows a B rather than a B, to complete the triad.

Hopefully it will get changed.

Nope, the sheetmusic as yet does not correct itself, so that correction is only in the ABCs... At least it is there...
