Background to St Patrick's Cathdral
This is written by John Sheehan (Dubliners), and was taught by Iain McDonald at Warwick Folk Festival in 2004. Iain wrote it in 2/4 time (I've also left out the grace notes).
I play it as a slowish march.
It's a corking little tune that is quite tricky to pick up by ear.

Sheet music?
does anyone have the sheep music for this tune? i'm going to try to pick up something new, so if anyone has the notes for this, i'd appreciate it.

SImplified
I just noticed I've posted both hands of a rather crude harp arrangement. The ABC is now just the pure tune! Sorry - taking a while top get to grips about this.

Recording
There's a quite nice recording of this tune on the Fiddlers' Bid album Naked And Bare, under the title Christchurch Cathedral. It's a beautiful piece from a great band, and definitely worth checking out.

Confused.....
I've been wanting to learn this tune for a while now since hearing it played by a local harp-player. She called it "Christchurch Cathedral", and what she plays is almost identical to what's been posted here. This is also the tune which "Fiddler's Bid" recorded as "Christchurch Cathedral", as mentioned above. So far , so good.
But......I've just watched a "Youtube" video of John Sheehan playing "St.Patrick's Cathedral", and also listened to a snippet from a Dubliners recording on iTunes. They are 2 completely different tunes. So - much as I hate to contradict Iain, whom I have great respect for, is the original poster of this tune quite sure that Iain got it right ?
There doesn't seem to be any doubt that John Sheehan composed "St.Patrick's Cathedral", but that's not this tune.

It appears that this tune is Christchurch Cathedral, Kenny, but it is also composed by John Sheahan. The Battlefield Band just call it Christ Church on "Out for the Night" - they attribute it to Sheahan too.

Well, thanks for that "Weejie". Seems to have taken 5 years for anyone to notice it's the wrong tune title - in 30 tune books, as well.

"Christchurch Cathedral" / "St.Patrick's Cathedral"
So is anyone going to strike the correction by adding a transcription for "St.Patrick's Cathedral"? I've written the original poster with hopes that much of a correction can be made... When I've time I'll chase up those listens you've mentioned above Kenny. Thanks for the heads up. I'd only just this week stumbled across this and liked the melody but hadn't managed to chase up further listening, crazy distractions on the home front...

Does anyone have a link to an audio, such as a YouTube, for John Sheahan's "Christchurch Cathedral"?
# Posted on February 14th 2012 by ceolachan
I have already listened to a selection of all those little bits and fragments out there, as on Amazon, etc... It would be nice to hear something fuller...
# Posted on February 14th 2012 by ceolachan
The "Fiddler's Bid" and "Battlefield Band" versions are both on iTunes. I didn't find it anywhere on "Youtube".
# Posted on February 14th 2012 by Kenny
More of this would be nice.
John Sheahan, Sean Keane and Maire Breathnach on fiddles, with Liam Martin on Cello.

Live at Christ Church.

More likely Neil Martin on cello. One review said Liam.

It was Neil - he appears in one of the other clips.

I've changed the title following the discussion
I still have the sheet music written by Iain McDonald with the title St Patrick's Cathedral, and I've come across it with both titles. Unusual for such a new tune to get its name confused so quickly.
# Posted on February 18th 2012 by UncleJack
Not as unusual when it's the same composer. It has happened before... Thanks for the response UJ, appreciated...

Now, if someone could supply the sheep music, everyone would be happy.
