Waltz of the little gils (the)

I believe it's rather 'Eb' than 'Fdor' but it's probably the same.
From the Brian HUGUES 's CD "WHISTLE STOP"

"The Waltz Of The Little Girls" -- Also played in D

I've always lliked this tune. I think it works better on the fiddle in D.
Here is ABC courtesy of Fiddler's Companion. This is pretty much the way I play it:

D:The Pearl, Phil Cunningham/Aly Bain
C:Trad/Rasmussen
N:Originally in Eb

It's credited to a Terry Rasmussen but I do not know who that is. I learned it from Grey Larsen circa 1982, he'd just picked it up in Europe. He was touring a lot then, and a lot of people in the US got it from him around that same time.

However, Eb always makes me suspicious of the source, such as half step sharp recordings of old, or old tunings for instruments...

Thanks Carabus, nice to see you...in a manner of speaking. ;-)

# Posted on May 29th 2009 by ceolachan

Hmmmm, you usually do better than that Carabus, that was short and awful... :-/

# Posted on May 29th 2009 by ceolachan

As the tale goes, one side of it anyway, this is a combination of the first part, which is a 'traditional' French waltz with a second part improvised onto it by one Terry Rasmussen of Colorado in the U.S. of America, who is also the composer of other tunes, such asa "Aly's Waltz":

By the way, I don't like that word in the "other names": Pettes, I think it should be Petites. S'il vous plait! "Pettes" would be feminine for "Pet", which translate by "Fart"...

# Posted on May 29th 2009 by Carabus

But, Carabus, "pet" whether it is produced by a male or a female (jamais de la vie!) is still "pet", n´est-ce pas ? :-)

# Posted on May 29th 2009 by murfbox

Also known as "La valse des petites jeunes filles" et non "La valse des pettes jeunes filles"

# Posted on May 29th 2009 by Carabus

Your right murfbox, but still, Pettes sounds terribly awful and makes me shiver.

# Posted on May 29th 2009 by Carabus

And me laugh... :-)

In G Major that is... :-/
