Composer

Why no info on the tune? Composed by famed Donegal fiddler Dinny McLaughlin of Shandrum, Buncrana. The Gally Canter was a rooster which used to wake him up each day during a stay in Jersualem in the 1990s. Great wee tune! And only one of Dinny's many great compositions.

Longnote, thanks for the details and credit where credit is due.

Another one of Dinny's tunes

For another of Dinny's -- a reel this time -- check "The Jinkin' Mermaid". I saw Dinny in concert in October last year during a short visit he made to the US with Liz Doherty, Jim and Damaris Woods. Glad to say he is still the same fiddler, showman, yarn spinner and entertainer he was when I first heard him play over 30 years ago. Also a champion dancer in his day, Dinny is a veritable showcase of traditional arts and a one-man home entertainment system.

Similar

Reminds me of
The Cape Breton Jig but played in D as Dervish does: http://www.thesession.org/tunes/display/838

Don't think so.

Sorry Unseen for my very unfriendly comment above. I didn't mean to be that rude. But I still don't see much similarity between the two tunes.

I don't think it sounds particularly similar except the first three notes go up the way in both tunes (different notes though) If you see a similarity perhaps you should stick them together in a set.

This tune is obviously related to the Blue Danube by Johann Strauss, and also to Sweet Child O' Mine by Guns n' Roses. Too similar to put in a set together though - you'd only end up confusing them.
