The Locomotive

One of James Hill's best. For a different transcription and sound sample of some virtuosic playing, go here: http://www.rogermillington.com/tunetoc/locomotive_skeltonnf.html.

For a more pedestrian interpretation of the tune that would probably be closer to the original, listen to the last track of "The Wind In The Reeds": http://www.artistdirect.com/nad/store/artist/album/0,,1152551,00.html
A transcription of that version is below:

I play the Quayside Hornpipe http://www.thesession.org/tunes/display.php/2740 after this one. They go well together.

Dow how many tunes other than hornpipes did James Hill pen - I know there's Blaydon flats but are there many more?

A northumbrian tunebook I got for christmas - Pete Loud's Collection of Northumbrian Fiddle Tunes - has a section on james hill compositions and ALL of tunes in that section are hornpipes.

Thanks,

sam

The section in Pete Loud's collection has flings and strathspeys too. He also wrote a jig called the Random Jig or Random Notes. He didn't write Blaydon Flats.
