SLOW AIR
A really nice sad slow air which i had been meaning to post a while ago but when i saw Gay McKeon had recorded on his album and that made me post it tight now.
In the book i learnt it from it says: "Irish air to 18th century limerick poem play with with free metre"
It also says use slides and use the notes in between F# and Fnat and also between C# and Cnat.
But thats what the book says but you can do anything you like with it (after all its trad).
Oh yeah, one more thing i play this on pipes (uilleann) it's really easy as its mostly in the first octave and a good beginners tune.

Slan Le Maigh
Gay McKeon says in the sleeve notes of his recording 'Irish Piping Tradition:
"Composed by Aindrias Mac Craith, one of the famous poets who lived along the Maigue River in the Bruff - Croom area of Co. Limerick.
The song was composed in 1738 when Mac Craith was compelled to leave the parish of Croom by the then Parish Priest."

Slán Le Máigh
I Love this tune which is sometimes sung. I believe it means Goodbye to the Maigue which is a small river that runs through Adare, a big-enough town in Limerick.

I think the abc is not written in 3/4 timing, needs to be re submitted, as doesn't make sense in the current form.

Maybe Mark, you should look at the ABC file for the other tune you've sublitted - Skibbereen? That seems to be in 3/4. See how that's structured and then rearrange your notes for this one.
This is perhaps an emigrant song? Anyway, nice to get the info. on the background to the name.

This tune is sung so rubato that it is hard to assign a rhythm but it is usually written in 4/4 as an aire. You can find it that way here:
