Does anybody know this tune?
I learned this beautiful march from the playing of the Leeds Ceili Band recorded around 10 years ago. It's the first tune of a smashing medley of a march, a jig, an O'Carolan piece, and a reel. I've no idea where it comes from. A fife tune?

This March (the full band)/ The Donnybrook Fair (pipes solo)/ Nameless O'Carolan Piece (fiddle & piano accordion duet accompanied by pipe drone)/ The Pigtown (the full band) It's on the recording called "Music in Exile: a celebration of comhaltas in Leeds" http://www.leedscomhaltas.org.uk/index.php?se=9&pg=36
I'll try to find out more about this tune and O'Carolan piece. 'Ceolachan' points out this march can be played in Edor somewhere else.

I thought it sounded kinda familiar as well - but then I figured it was the set dance, 'Rodney's Glory', I was thinking of - is there some sort of relationship there, perhaps.

I've known it in E Dorian but it can also be played in B Dorian... I still haven't come up with the 'name' yet, but I haven't given up, not on my memory or my various resources, living and otherwise. As I like to put it, my memory isn't bad, it just doesn't perform on demand...
I'll return with some other takes on this one. It's a kick to play..

Ah, I remember this tune from last year. We played in a Grupa Ceoil competition but haven't played it since. Nice march.

Don't forget to add the name to the Leeds recording so the two will link together. I still favour playing this down lower, but I'll add a take on that to this transcription later, as promised way back when.
Damned I have an oddly firing memory. I have been looking for making the connection since you first submitted this, off and on, and then sent me a copy of their recording on cassette, which is still here besides the computer with a wobbling stack of other recordings and queries to attend to. I even contacted some folks in Leeds to see if they might help my uncooperative memory, but alas, no. It always drives me a little la-la when I know I know a tune but can't shake the specifics out of the museum of my brain...

"Richard Deasy's March" ~ by the book, well, almost ~ E Dorian
I know, I promised this ages ago, the way I actually prefer it, down a fourth and with more grumble per gram, in E Dorian... Rather than take my flights of fancy with it, at least for this entry, and for comparision with the other takes here, this is literally by the book but down lower. The book has the B part doubled, but I've never known it to be played that way and suspect that was just a misprint. It just seems to go better as a 1st and 2nd ending, as offered up here so far. Here's that long overdo lower take on it. I may add my own take on it in the valleys later, but for now ~

'c', I will post "Music in Exile," hopefully tomorrow. There are a couple of more Paddy O'Brien tunes on the recording. I guess a piano accordion player picked it up from the tunebook.
