The Sweat House (reel)
I learned this Joe Liddy tune from Charlie Piggott's box playing. I was fortunate to have some tunes with him in Lisdoonvarna two nights in a row this June. In a very quiet session melody players were just two of us. Charlie asked me to play some tunes, so I did a couple of rare Scots reels on the flute. Then, he took out a tape recorder saying "What's the last one?" It was The Nine Pint Coggie. Just imagine a renowned Irish musician recording an Asian guy playing a Scots tune! Anyway this is one of the tunes he gave to me in return.
Charlie remarked The Nine Pint Coggie sounds a bit like The Killarney Boys of Pleasure, and insisted this one, "The Sweat House," is the best version of it. Dervish recorded a different version, but I don't know which is closer to the original.
