Ferny Hill
This is a nice 5-part reel. The book in the Long Black Veil CD give say it's by Matt Molloy and Sean Keane.
Please note that the signature should be C| (2/2), not 4/4. The notes would still look the same. This is played "not too fast" in the CD, say the 1/4 note at about 140 bpm.

Ooops, try 1/4 note at 180 bpm.

Ferny Hill
Hi glauber,
thanks for the notation of that nice tune.
I wouldn't say it is a 5part reel, because the Chieftains play it like that
with the 5 parts named as A,B,C,D,E
AABB AABB AABB
CDDE CDDE CDDE
so I would sya it's kinda two reels, played 3 times each.
The second one has a non traditional pattern.
The 180bpm are true for the start, but the tune ends up much faster.

urs, you're right, it is two different reels: Ferny Hill and Little Molly. The Chieftains have both of them listed on their Wide World Over compilation. Was there a goof up in the Long Black Veil?

It's a really nice tune and it's much fun to play on the violin!
There are plenty of options to place a top or cut and it never gets boring^^

Names etc.
Just had a concert here with Fingal last night, and had a wonderful conversation with James Keane. The first reel was written by Matt Molloy, and the second was written by Sean Keane. James mentioned the name of the tune as "Pretty Molly". Quite the interesting story how that tune came about... =)
