Twisting Tale
Sounds good either on a feadog or a low whistle. This tune is about a young man who falls madly in love with a girl. Her parents disapprove and to get rid of the suitor they ask him to help make the hayrope (made by twisting strands together). As the rope gets longer and longer he is forced to step outside of the barn door, and when he does the parents slam the door in his face. Dejected, he goes off and writes this tune. I find it best if actually played slower like and air.

Unfortunately not a reel but a set dance.

Wrong
This IS the set-dance "An Suisan Ban", and as far as I know, the only thing it has in common with the slow-air "Casadh An Tsugain" is that both are Irish, and both have been recorded by the "Chieftains" . Nice story - wrong tune.

This is "An Suisan Ban",which I believe translates as "The White Blanket"

That's "An SúisÃn Bán".

Kenny - I disagree. The air I know as Casadh an tSugain is most definitely the same tune as this, give or take a few notes. Could there be another air by the same name?

"This IS the set-dance "An Suisin Ban""
...although I agree with that bit. There are enough notes given or taken to warrant a different name, and this version is the set dance, not the air.
