From my underground laboratory
This cyclical little jig was inspired in part by Across the Hill off've "Monsieur Donal Lunny and his new band" 's live album. I was intrigued by the 6/8 melody against a loose 3/4 backing, and wanted to see if I could come up with something similar - this is the result.
all notes that are immediately repeated can be tied together to create a cross-beat synchopation, but alternating that with cuts (try using cuting on different fingers each time - on flute and whistle, anyway) can spice it up quite nicely - particularly in the 2nd part.
I named it Goggles in the Rain because I spent most of the day I came up with it, lying at the bottom of the swimming pool at my folks house, watching a marvelous thunderstorm splatter rain and hailstones against the surface above me, through a pair of goggles. It was an interesting day.
