The Flooded Road To Glenties
Reel written by Jimmy McHugh, posted on behalf of bb as it is one of her favourite tunes. Transcribed from Liz Doherty's album "Quare Imagination". In practice her long rolls start on the note below, followed by a short roll, but I've simplified this for the transcription, so for example e~f2e I've written as ~f3e and A~B2A as ~B3A.

Ideas for some chords
I worked out some nice chords for this today. I know there are people out there who hate me for talking about chords, but hey, I'm a backer, and they might be useful for someone, so here goes:
|:Bm A |A E|Bm A|C#m F#m|
F#m A|G D|F#m|A E:|
|:Bm|Bm A|Bm A|C#m F#m|
F#m A|G D|F#m|A E:|

Thanks, Dow, for posting this tune! Actually, I posted it a month or so ago under "Gan Aimn" because I didn't know the name.

I learnt mine from a *very* static-filled tape. That, combined with my lack of skill at learning from Jesse Smith blazing fiddle has made our transcriptions different. Which is good!

Mark, thanks for the chords--the backers I play with love it when I suggest chords for new tunes, and your info here helps.

Thanks Will. As long as people aren't getting the impression that I'm a cheeky young upstart telling other people how to play. I'm passionate about harmony and backing, and I only want to help and contribute in a positive way to this website, that's all. Jonathan, sorry for duplicating. I didn't thnk to do an advanced search for the abc. If Jeremy deletes this I'll post the chords in the comments of the other one.

There're quite a few different versions of this tune. I learnt one version in Paul Bradley's class at the Willie Clancy Week, then a completely version from Liz Doherty a couple of weeks ago, and this one's different again - they all make for good variations!

I don't think you tell other people how to play, Mark. *snicker*

Didnt know McHugh of McHugh's on "Wintering out" wrote it.
Heard Mairi Campbell and Derek Hoy play it in the Castle arms, Edinburgh few yrs ago

I noticed quite a difference between the version I learned of this, from the Victoria Bar session (Christina Smith), and the version Benny McHugh (Jimmy's son) plays. I quite like the low G# followed by the high A in his version
