The High King Reel
This tune was composed by Sean Quinn, accordionist of Newcastle, Co. Down, Ireland around 1963 in reference to the Ard Rí (High King) Ceil Band in which he was then a member. The band subsequently broadcast the tune on the Radio Eireann ceili house programme and it was picked up by a number of musicians, particularly in the North of Ireland. Sean has since composed over 50 jigs reels and hornpipes.
