Someone mentioned in a discussion that The Man Who Died And Rose Again wasn't on the site.This is from Robin Williamson's Fiddle Book.It's the only jig I know with a Christian title,and the only one with just one part.

Yeah, Williamson makes that claim about a paucity of tunes with Christian titles in his book. But what about the Reverend Brothers Jig, Musical Priest, the Crosses of Annagh, the Priest's Leap, and Maudabawn Chapel?

I used to play this little tune in the key of 'D' just goes to show you how different it can sound in 'C'.

Man who died and rose again

A glance through O'Neill will show a number of tune titles referring to Christianity, including Father X's, Christmas, Easter, etc.

Regarding the length of this tune, I just wonder if it was originally a 2-parter, and somehow the second part got forgotten - a little unlikely, I know. Anyway, it would be a nice exercise to compose a convincing 2nd part for this tune. This wouldn't be the first time this sort of thing has been done - it has a respectable ancestry in all kinds of music. Don't forget that O'Neill was reputed to have completed some otherwise incomplete tunes!

Minor point in re/ "Crosses of Annagh": it's a reference to a place (a crossroads just south of Miltown Malbay): I believe Jr Crehan's home townland.

I just saw Kieran O'Hare play a two-part tune called The Man Who Died and Rose Again, which he said was a version of Saddle the Pony. Unfortunately I don't remember it well enough to comment on the relationship to this version...
