Triplets

This is tune is triplet-heaven, at least the way I've shown it here. You don't have to play all those triplets - in fact it would be a good idea to vary the ornamentation a lot more - but they can add a nice percussive, rhythmic effect.

I'm just watching a webcast of Liz Carroll live, and she adds in a little half-sized (?) part between the A and B parts of "Fermoy Lasses". It's really neat, and makes you sit up straight if you're just expecting the usual lovely Em/G reel. I think her B part's in A minor or A mixo. Anyone have a clue?

Liz Carroll's 'B' Part

Haven't heard the webcast or CherishTL-CD, but in the mid '80s when she played it for me, her mini- 'B' part was something like:

Fermoy Lasses - singled or doubled?

I've always thought of this tune as doubled. But it's been a while since I've heard it at a session, and I'm doubting myself now. I just listened to that clip from the Burkes Whistles site - beautiful - where it is played doubled, which is as I remember it.

Any thoughts?

Fermoy Lasses

Does anyone know who wrote this? I saw it attributed to Joe Cooley. Is this correct?

# Posted on July 24th 2011 by Sean1798

Not possible

Joe Cooley was born in 1924. "Fermoy Lasses" appears in "O'Neill's 1001 Gems - The Dance Music of Ireland" printed in 1907.
