This is a cute little tune that Natalie MacMaster has described as the "perfect" tune for fiddlers trying to get the hang of their bowed triplets.
Enjoy,

Crossing The Minch
This was written by G. Mclennan on the Minch ferry. There are four parts to the tune,I could submit the whole tune if anyone wants it. David Meredith

Yes, please do submit the other two parts! I requested this one because it's the tune used most commonly for the Sailor's Hornpipe, and I'm in the process of learning the Highland dance tunes... This is only part of the tune our dancers use! Don't get me wrong, I appreciate it very much!

But it sounds like....
I played the two-part version ( any chance of getting the other two parts up in notation for us semi-illiterates ? ) to a friend last night and she thought it sounded Breton, not that htere's anything wrong with that.

Triplet Bowing
Chelle Fulk, the fiddler in the band Keltish (she's also my husband's fiddle coach) doesn't bow the triplets in Minch. She has this trick of tensing her forearm just so, and it makes the bow bounce on the string.
