Humours of Ballyloughlin

I learned this from a fiddler friend who learned it from Eileen Ivers at a fiddle camp. This version closely matches the way she plays it on her early cd "Eileen Ivers." It's a great rollicking tune, full of punch and lift as Eileen plays it, a good model to strive for.

Humours C#

This is a real favourite under many guises, ie it can be played a lot of different ways and always sounds good.
I have found that unlike Ivers most session players seem to play that C in the 3rd, 4th and 7th bars of the third part(C section) as naturals and then sharp in the 8th bar.
Anyway I dont have a preference personally but just listen out for what others are doing.
Cheers

Humours of Ballyloughlin

Yes, it has a dramatic change of key and that is what makes it such a fabulous tune. Its a bit of a show case jig that great fiddlers can really go to town with. I have a Kathleen Collins record from the 70's with it on, and I've heard three very magical versions.

This is piping tune!!!!

This is a real big piping jig. To find out what it's all about, listen to Liam O'Flynn playing it with Planxty on The Well Below The Valley. I will post a piping version when I get the chance.

This is a huge piping jig. Lotsa crans and staccato triplets. Liam OFlynn got it from Willie Clancy, so check out how Willie plays it and compare. Nice stuff, it can make a bitter and blackened piper's heart skip a beat : )

Looking for the chords to Humors of Ballyloughlin - this version

Hi there. I got the ABC file from this board here. It's very close to Eileen Iver's version of this tune. I'm looking for the guitar chords. The danged thing moves so fast on the CD. LOL
If anyone can help me, please send them to my email address. chprout@aol.com
Thanks so much.

I was listening to two players down in the session last night playing this. It sounded familier but I can't remember where I heard it before. Maybe I heard it under a different name. I found it a kind of mix between The Pipe on the Hob, Kilfenora Jig 2 and Freize Britches.

Mairéad Corridan from Co. Limerick (concertina) plays this tune after "Mike Cooney's Fancy."

Humours of Ballyloughlin

A superb tune! As much as I love the Planxty version, PLEASE, PLEASE try and listen to the version by LAST NIGHT'S FUN, featuring Nick Scott on pipes, on the CD 'Tempered'. It's an absolute masterpiece!
